Black gospel music history
Black gospel music history can be traced back to the first quarter of the twentieth centuary, first heard in African American churches. Whilst there was a distinctive split in Gospel music itself, with white American artists also producing and signing Gospel, black gospel music history had its deep roots in the communities that reached out with their music to communicate with God. Much of this communication was from desperation as to the social situations many black found themselves in during this time period, slavery was a contributing factor in the music, and the blues found within gospel music the result.
As time moved along into the early 1940's black gospel music history would be quite remarkably evolved into something much less personal and communitive to God and much more commercial as black families began to move out of the traditional south, and across the USA. As they moved they took a slice of black gospel music history with then, soon more oganised quartets and chiors began to spring up, this perpetuated the popularity explosion, and soon after world war two, the black community began to purchase gospel record in their droves.
The 1950's saw another development in black gospel music history as musical occompanyment was added to many of the popular artists of the time, this only served to push the style even further into the popular main stream. Gospel continued to slowly grow and evolve right up until the today where the traditional coming together of blues, jazz and rock and roll, have added contemporary R and B to the meld to take the style to even dizzier hieghts.
Black gospel music history is indeed a stunning evolution from its roots in the African-American communities and churches to todays main stream world wide consumer audience.
